Rules of life...

I have taken these to be some of the rules I will abide by in my life.
Do you have any "rules" that you live by?

  1. Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
  2. Judge your success by what you had to give in order to get it.
  3. Don’t believe everything you hear, spend all you have or sleep all you want.
  4. When you say, “I love you,” mean it.
  5. When you say, “I’m sorry,” look the person in the eye.
  6. You can't shake hands with a clenched fist.
  7. Never laugh at anyone’s dreams.
  8. Love deeply and passionately. You might get hurt but it’s the only way to live life completely.
  9. In disagreements, fight fairly. No name calling.
  10. Don’t judge people by their relatives.
  11. Talk slow but think quick.
  12. Remember that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
  13. Call your mom.
  14. Say “bless you” when you hear someone sneeze.
  15. When you lose, don’t lose the lesson.
  16. Remember the three R’s: Respect for self; Respect for others; Responsibility for all your actions.
  17. Don’t let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
  18. When you realize you’ve made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
  19. Smile when picking up the phone. The caller will hear it in your voice.
  20. Marry a man/woman you love to talk to. As you get older, conversational skills will be very important.
  21. Spend some time alone.
  22. Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.
  23. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
  24. Read more books and watch less TV.
  25. Trust in God but lock your car.
  26. A loving atmosphere in your home is so important. Do all you can to create a tranquil harmonious home.
  27. In disagreements with loved ones, deal with the current situation. Don’t bring up the past.
  28. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a stroke of luck.
  29. Mind your own business.
  30. Pray without ceasing

Sunday Inspiration

This has to be one of my favorite scenes of one of my favorite movies The Color Purple.  I have many fond memories watching this with my mother as she reenacted every line of the movie.  I miss my mother every day but this post has me smiling, laughing and reliving wonderful moments that I shared with her.  This song and the memory of my mother will give me the inspiration I need this week.

Is God trying to tell you something??

Be Encouraged!!!

A "little" Accessory is all you need...

I used to be a "hoop" girl.  I felt like the bigger the hoop earring - then the better.  Might be the NY in me.  The gold hoop earring was a staple to your outfit.  But as I've gotten older - my accessories have become more diverse and I'm leaning towards pieces that make a statement.

With that said - I've been loving "post" earrings.  Defined earrings will add a lil "pizazz" to any outfit.

What do you think of these earrings I found at Forever 21 and Old Navy?  And you can't beat the price of $2.50 at Forever 21!!!  I do think someone needs to talk to the reps at Old Navy because their prices are a little ridiculous for the accessories.  When looking for something quick to add to an outfit, I'm sure we would buy much more if they were priced more affordable.  Really $6 for a post earring?

These are my favorite and will go great with my uniform for work :(

Never look down on anybody unless you're helping them up.

It may be difficult to realize celebrities are humans too.  They live their lives on the stage for everyone to watch and comment on.  Could you imagine if you had cameras taping your every move?  Would there be things published you wouldn't be pleased with?  Would there be pictures or actions you displayed that your mother would not approve of?

I have always been a fan of Rihanna's style but after her interview with Oprah.  I have a newfound respect for the woman that she is.  Rihanna is human.  She laughs, cries, came from humble beginnings, likes to have a good time.  I don't condone physical abuse but I can respect her for saying he needed help and that she equated her relationship to the relationship she saw growing up between her parents.

In the end we all want love.  We want to be loved by those around us.  I am encouraged by her to "forgive my enemies" and to find the source of what you may be going through in order to "find your happy place."  What do you think of Rihanna?  Did you watch the interview?

We all, we all, we all, we all, we all
We all, we all, we all, we all, we all

I can pretend that I'm not lonely
But I'll be constantly fooling myself
I can pretend that it don't matter
But I'll be sitting here lying to myself
Some say love ain't worth the buck
But I'll give every dime I have left
To have what I've only been dreaming about

Everybody wants something
Gotta want something
What are you living for?
Everybody needs something
Fighting for something
I know what you're fighting for
Cause we all

We all want someone there to hold
We just want somebody
We all wanna be somebody's one and only
We all wanna be warm when it's cold
Yeah yeah yeah

Sunday Inspiration...

Rest Peacefully Angel

Ms. Whitney Houston truly had an amazing voice and with the release of her last movie Sparkle this weekend, her rendition of "I love the Lord"is giving me the inspiration that I need.

Be encouraged and have a wonderful week.

"I Love The Lord"

I love the the Lord, he heard my cry
And pitied every groan, long as I, I live
And troubles rise, I hasten to his throne

Oh, I love the Lord I sure do, surely do love the Lord He heard, he heard my cry And pitied every groan, yes he did Every groan Long as I live, long as I, I live And troubles rise, troubles rise I hasten to to to to to I'll hasten, I'll hasten to his throne I'll hasten to his throne hold on hold on Tears are streaming down my eyes I'll hasten, I'll hasten to his throne Yes I will, I'll run I know I can go to his throne I know I can go, I know I can go I'll hasten, I'm gonna run I know I can go, I know I can go I'll hasten, I'll hasten to his throne See I can run, Lord you know I will When there is nowhere to go I know I can go to you I know I can run to you oh I'll hasten, I'll hasten to his, his throne Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah I'll hasten, hasten to his throne Surely gonna be here

Engagement Party - Celeb Inspired

We have an engagement party coming up and I wanted to create a look inspired by one of my fav celebrities BEYONCE!!  Here is how she rocked this Sass & Bide dress...

The dress is the same but I changed the accessories to fit my style.
What do you think of my inspired look?

Engagement Party - Celeb Inspired

Birthdays = Personal Holidays

This is the look I was going for to celebrate my loves birthday.  I love birthdays so much because I think of them as our own personal holidays.  He asked for his dinner to be at Maggiano's which is a delicious, family-style, italian restaurant.  It was good!!!

I purchased a black peplum top to ease into the trend and the only midi skirt I could find :( was a black/grey one.  I didn't want to pair any pops of color with this particular skirt so I kept the colors mono-toned and added the funkiness with my heel-less wedges.  I love these shoes.

I felt fab and my love "loved" the look so all is well :)

What do you think of the midi skirt and peplum look??  Next time, I'm adding a more color!

Sunday Inspiration...

This song has been speaking to my spirit lately.
"Hold On" by James Fortune feat. Monica and Fred Hammond.
Please listen and I hope it gives you a little Sunday Inspiration...

I know you’re praying for a change
To see a sunny day
Nothing good has come your way for so long
You need someone to understand this place your heart is in
You just want to dream again and believe

Your skies may look dim and grey
But know your breakthrough’s not far away

So hold on
You are too close to give up now
You have so much to live for
Remember what you prayed for
Hold on, please don’t let go in this season
Know that flowers bloom when rain falls
You just hold on

You ask when will this go away
Know that God can feel your pain
Believe He’ll never fall short of His word
Sometimes we forget that He holds us His hands
But I’m reminding you don’t give up

I’ve been where you are
Almost at the breaking point in my life
I know you say it’s impossible
But you’ve got to hang on cause it’s just about over

All of your dreams
All of your desires are coming to pass
So I’m telling you don’t lose your faith
Hold on to His word don’t give up

Have we been reduced to hair???

I am extremely disturbed that what should be considered major issues are often overlooked by less important "smaller" issues.  The internet has been flooded not with accolades and congratulatory remarks for Ms. Gabby Douglas, who is a 16 year old, African American, gold OLYMPIC award winning young woman.  Instead, we are discussing her hair????

Are you kidding me???

This young woman is talented.
Gabby is doing something that is pure skill and takes hard work and determination to achieve.

When is the last time you were able to do this??

or this --------------------------------->

I thought so.

I'm sure hair - is the furthest thought from her mind.  She just won a gold medal in the OLYMPICS.  Does anyone understand just how major that is???  Instead of criticizing and ridiculing this CHILD about something as minor as her hair - why not APPLAUD her??  Why not show the young ladies around us that she is a role model instead of watching the typical foolishness on TV.

Ms. Gabby Douglas is a role model for me.
Anyone who can devote that much time, energy and diligence to perfect their craft ought to be admired.

Gabby - I salute you!!!
